Regular Season Round 23: Statyba - Perlas-MRU 68-78

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Perlas-MRU (12-11) beat higher ranked Statyba (13-10) in Vilnius 78-68 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Perlas-MRU. Statyba was better in third quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perlas-MRU looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Gintautas Vileita (193-75, college: Monmouth) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Mantas Kazonas (201-89) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Perlas-MRU's coach Mindaugas Sakalauskas used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) answered with 20 points and 6 rebounds and forward Remigijus Sugintas (200-87) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Statyba. Perlas-MRU moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Triobet. Loser Statyba dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. Perlas-MRU will face higher ranked Mazeikiai (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
