Regular Season Round 12: EMA Menres - Alges 36-71

Liga Feminina top team - Alges (11-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked EMA Menres (2-10) 71-36. The game was mostly controlled by Alges. EMA Menres managed to win fourth quarter 12-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding EMA Menres to just 6 points in third quarter. Alges dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to EMA Menres' 22. Alges forced 23 EMA Menres turnovers and outrebounded them 45-24 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of American swingman Christina Wirth (186-87, college: Vanderbilt) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Jennifer Risper (175-87, college: Vanderbilt) who added 8 points, 8 assists and 5 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Filipa Bernardeco (173-92) with 13 points and Natacha Ca scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alges have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-1 record, which they share with AD Vagos. EMA Menres lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the eleventh place with ten games lost. Alges is looking forward to face bottom-ranked CDTorres N. (#12) in Torres Novas in the next round which should be another easy win for them. EMA Menres will play on the road against Montijobanda and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
