Regular Season Round 14: Turk Telekom - Tofas 75-83

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Tofas (9-5) beat 10th ranked Turk Telekom (7-7) in Ankara 83-75 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Turk Telekom won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tofas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Turk Telekom's 32. Strangely Turk Telekom outrebounded Tofas 37-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Croatian center Jurica Zuza (207-78, agency: Alti Sport) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points. American point guard Ronald Steele (187-86, college: Alabama) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists for the winners. Five Tofas players scored in double figures. Tofas' coach Nihat Izic used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Muratcan Guler (192-80, agency: 1x1 Sports) replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) added 18 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) in the effort for Turk Telekom. Tofas have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Karsiyaka. Loser Turk Telekom dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Tofas will face higher ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (#4) in Istanbul in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Turk Telekom will play on the road against Trabzonspor (#15).
