Regular Season Round 14: Fener.Ulker - Anadolu Efes 83-90
Date: January 7, 2012
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Anadolu Efes (#1) and Fenerbahce Ulker (#3). Fenerbahce Ulker was defeated at home 83-90 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fenerbahce Ulker. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 34-24. But Fenerbahce Ulker won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Kerem Tunceri (190-79) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 6 assists. Uruguayan power forward Esteban Batista (208-83) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. American guard Curtis Jerrells (185-87, college: Baylor) replied with 29 points and 4 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and the former international center Oguz Savas (212-87) added 17 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) in the effort for Fenerbahce Ulker. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anadolu Efes maintains first position with 12-2 record. Defending champion Fenerbahce Ulker keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Besiktas and Banvit BK. Anadolu Efes are looking forward to face Mersin (#13) in Akdeniz in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fenerbahce Ulker will play on the road against Tofas (#7) in Bursa and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
