An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Samokov. Third ranked Rilski Sportist faced their biggest opponent Levski Sofia. Host Rilski Sportist (8-5) defeated guests from Sofia (10-3) 76-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Levski Sofia. The game was mostly controlled by Rilski Sportist. Levski Sofia managed to win second period 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Rilski Sportist won last quarter 20-11. They made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Rilski Sportist outrebounded Levski Sofia 45-30 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Levski Sofia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Hristo Zahariev (200-90) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Serbian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). Four Rilski Sportist players scored in double figures. American swingman Aaron Harper (199-81, college: Mississippi, agency: Strategic Sports) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and the former international Dimitar Anguelov (203-79, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points and 5 steals respectively for lost side. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rilski Sportist maintains third place with 8-5 record having five points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Levski Sofia at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Rilski Sportist are looking forward to face Chernomorets (#7) in Burgas in the next round. Levski Sofia will play at home against Euroins Cherno More (#5) in Varna and is hoping to win this game.
