Rather predictable result in Barreiro where fifth ranked GDESSA (8-4) defeated 8th ranked Olivais (4-8) 65-48 on Saturday. The game without a history. GDESSA led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Olivais to just 7 points in third quarter. GDESSA dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Olivais' 30. They outrebounded Olivais 47-23 including a 24-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Angie Ned (175-85, college: Cal-Irvine, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import power forward Elisa Beagle (183-87, college: Texas A&M-CC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four GDESSA players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Maria Joao Andrade (186-92) who recorded 13 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Jessica Almeida (172-93) added 12 points respectively. GDESSA moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CAB Madeira. Olivais lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. GDESSA will meet league's second-placed AD Vagos on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Olivais will play against CAB Madeira (#5) in Funchal and hope to secure a win.
