Regular Season Round 12: LSU-Baltai - Sakalai 78-71

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Sakalai (3-10) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Baltai Kaunas (7-5) 78-71. It looked good early as Sakalai took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Baltai Kaunas had a 21-14 second period charge getting the lead and Sakalai was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-78. 24 personal fouls committed by Sakalai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for guard Zygimantas Janavicius (192-89, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with 17 points. Guard Vytenis Cizauskas (189-92) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Baltai Kaunas players scored in double figures. Forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) replied with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Arvydas Gydra (206-89) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sakalai. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Baltai Kaunas moved-up to fifth place. Sakalai lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. Baltai Kaunas' next round opponent will be league's leader Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it may be quite challenging game.
