Regular Season Round 18: Hanau - Giessen 101-71

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Giessen Pointers (2-14) were outplayed on the road by sixth ranked Hanau (9-7) 101-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Hanau. Giessen Pointers was better in fourth quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game. Hanau had a 32-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Giessen Pointers' players. Giessen Pointers were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Marian Schick (198-86) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Indian-American guard Anish Sharda (191-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) chipped in 13 points and 12 assists during the contest. Five Hanau players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Derrick Stevens (180-80, college: Colorado St.) with 22 points and his fellow American import forward Jarrel Smith (200, college: Concordia Irvine) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hanau have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Hanau maintains sixth position in Group South with 9-7 record, which they share with Langen. Giessen Pointers lost twelfth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with 14 games lost. Hanau will face league's second-placed Noerdlingen on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Giessen Pointers will play against Dragons Rhoendorf (#4).
