Regular Season Round 10: Guifoes - Maia Basket 55-71

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Guifoes (3-7) lost at home to eleventh ranked Maia Basket (3-7) 71-55 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maia Basket. Guifoes managed to win second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maia Basket forced 19 Guifoes turnovers and outrebounded them 28-14 including 19 on the defensive glass. Forward Joao Diamantino (201-85) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Andre Dara (180-83) supported him with 16 points and 6 assists. Four Maia Basket players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by guard Vitor Felix (190-91) did not help to save the game for Guifoes. Guard Daniel Correia (174-84) added 9 points for lost side. Guifoes' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Maia Basket moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Guifoes and Gaeirense. Guifoes lost third consecutive game. Maia Basket will meet at home league's second-placed Illiabum in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Guifoes will play against Angrabasket (#4) and hope to secure a win.
