Regular Season Round 17: Levski - Slavia 91-75

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Levski (#5) and Slavia (#7). Levski (6-8) crushed visiting Slavia (0-14) by 16 points 91-75. The game was mostly controlled by Levski. Slavia managed to win fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levski dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Slavia's 48. They outrebounded Slavia 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Levski looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Juanita Ward (180-86, college: Syracuse, agency: Merit Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Agnesa Doychinova (188-73) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Levski's coach Stefan Mihaylov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Neli Pasheva (175-81) answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Stefka Nikolova (173-90) added 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Slavia. Levski maintains fifth place with 6-8 record. Slavia at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Levski are looking forward to face higher ranked Montana 2003 (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Slavia will play against the league's leader Dunav 8806 in Ruse and hopes to get finally their first victory.
