Regular Season Round 27: Suduva-Mantinga - S.Marciulionio 107-111

An interesting game took place in Marijampole where higher ranked Matinga-Juod. (15-12) was upset on its own court by fourteenth ranked S.Marciulionio (11-16) 111-107 on Friday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Matinga-Juod.. The guests trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 38-25 charge, which allowed them to win the game. S.Marciulionio shot 62.1 percent from the field and made 33-of-41 free shots (80.5 percent) during the game. Matinga-Juod. was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for forward Nerijus Varnelis (200-78) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Forward Vaidas Trepocka (200-80, agency: Court Side) helped adding 20 points. The best for the losing side was guard Aurimas Birgelis (190-88) with 31 points and 8 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and forward Aurimas Majauskas (199-93) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Matinga-Juod.'s coach Mindaugas Sagaitis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. S.Marciulionio moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Silute. Newly promoted Matinga-Juod. dropped to the sixth position with 12 games lost. S.Marciulionio will face Silute (#12) at home in the next round.
