Rather predictable result when tenth ranked Science City Jena (9-9) won against at home 12th ranked BG Karlsruhe (7-11) 89-85 on Friday. BG Karlsruhe was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 25-18 charge of Science City Jena, which allowed them to win the game. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Kenny Barker (191-86, college: Alaska-Anch.) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import forward Jeremy Black (203-85, college: Tampa, agency: Court Side) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Forward Rouven Roessler (200-80) came up with 18 points and American guard Martin Samarco (191-85, college: Bowling Green) added 21 points respectively for BG Karlsruhe in the defeat. Four Science City Jena and five BG Karlsruhe players scored in double figures. Science City Jena moved-up to eighth place. Loser BG Karlsruhe dropped to the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Science City Jena will meet league's leader Mitteldeutscher BC in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BG Karlsruhe will play against NBC (#9) in Nurnberg and hope to secure a win.
