Regular Season Round 16: Utena - Ruta Siauliai 73-58

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Ruta Siauliai (4-13) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Utena (8-8) 73-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Utena. Ruta Siauliai managed to win third quarter 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Utena forced 19 Ruta Siauliai turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Utena especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Ela Briedyte (176-79) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and the former international guard Egle Zygelyte (166-84) who added 12 points and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side forward Sandra Baliutaviciute (182-81) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (made all of her fifteen free throws !!!) and Belarusian center Lidia Panasiuk (183-85) scored 20 points. Newly promoted Utena maintains fifth position with 8-8 record. Ruta Siauliai at the other side stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Utena will meet at home higher ranked Lemminkainen (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ruta Siauliai will play against the league's second-placed Sirenos (#2) in Kaunas and hope to secure a win.
