Regular Season Round 20: Svendborg - Aarhus BC 86-82
Date: January 21, 2012
Very predictable result when second ranked Svendborg (18-2) defeated at home 7th ranked Aabyhoj (7-13) 86-82 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 32-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Svendborg made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Aabyhoj turnovers. Strangely Aabyhoj outrebounded Svendborg 42-24 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Adama Darboe (190-86) who helped to win the game recording 29 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American forward Durell Vinson (201-85, college: Wagner) who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. American forward Demetrius Phillips (207-87, college: Bridgeport) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import forward D'Mario Curry (201-85, college: Lincoln Memorial) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. Five Svendborg and four Aabyhoj players scored in double figures. Svendborg maintains second position with 18-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Bakken. Aabyhoj at the other side keeps the seventh place with 13 games lost. Svendborg will face SISU (#4) in Copenhagen in the next round. Aabyhoj will play at home against Falcon.
