There was no surprise in Utena where 8th ranked Juventus (5-9) was defeated by fifth ranked Baltai Kaunas (8-7) 76-70 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-10. But Juventus won second period 21-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Baltai Kaunas won last quarter 24-19. They made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Croatian power forward Mario Delas (207-90) fired 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Zygimantas Janavicius (192-89, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Baltai Kaunas players scored in double figures. Baltai Kaunas' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ukrainian center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Gediminas Maceina (188-84) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Baltai Kaunas maintains fifth place with 8-7 record. Loser Juventus keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
