Regular Season Round 14: Tarsus Bld - Antakya 67-59

There was a minor upset in Mersin where 8th ranked Antakya (5-9) was defeated by tenth ranked Tarsus Bld (5-9) 67-59 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Antakya won fourth quarter 13-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Ivory Latta (168-84, college: N.Carolina) scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Tangela Smith (193-77, college: Iowa, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Swingman Monique Currie (183-83, college: Duke) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and power forward Laura Harper (193-86, college: Maryland) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Antakya's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tarsus Bld moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Antakya. Tarsus Bld's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Mersin to the arena Mersin.
