There was no surprise when 12th ranked Giessen Pointers (2-15) were defeated at home by fourth ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (11-5) 89-71 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-71. Dragons Rhoendorf outrebounded Giessen Pointers 43-19 including a 12-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Giessen Pointers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Canadian guard Stuart Turnbull (188-84) fired a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American forward Earnest Jones (198-85, college: Southern) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Four Dragons Rhoendorf players scored in double figures. American guard Derrick Stevens (180-80, college: Colorado St.) produced 24 points and the other American import forward Jarrel Smith (200, college: Concordia Irvine) added 21 points respectively for lost side. Dragons Rhoendorf maintains fourth place in Group South with 11-5 record. Giessen Pointers lost their thirteenth game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Dragons Rhoendorf will face TSV Troester (#9) in Breitenguessbach in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Giessen Pointers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Noerdlingen.
