Regular Season Round 19: Cuxhaven - Ehingen 75-63

Date: January 22, 2012
There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (8-10) beat at home 10th ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule (8-10) 75-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Cuxhaven BasCats. Ehingen/Urspringschule managed to win second period 19-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cuxhaven BasCats made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Nate Gerwig (206-83, college: Kent St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). His fellow American import swingman Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Cuxhaven BasCats' coach Vilmantas Matkevicius used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Virgil Matthews (188-83, college: Montana) came up with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and center Andreas Buechert (208-87, college: Winthrop, agency: Limelight Hoops) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Ehingen/Urspringschule in the defeat. Cuxhaven BasCats moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Ehingen. Cuxhaven BasCats will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ehingen/Urspringschule will play against Webmoebel Baskets (#4) in Paderborn and hope to secure a win.
