There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Istanbul Universitesi (3-12) edged at home higher ranked Optimum TED (6-9) 68-66 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Istanbul Universitesi made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Istanbul Universitesi outrebounded Optimum TED 43-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for forward Charde Houston (185-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Roneeka Hodges (180-82, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Center Kara Braxton (198-83, college: Georgia) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Erin Thorn (178-81, college: BYU) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Optimum TED. Istanbul Universitesi moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Besiktas. Newly promoted Optimum TED dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Istanbul Universitesi will face higher ranked Botas (#7) in Adana in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
