Regular Season Round 15: Galatasaray - Samsun 92-53
Date: January 28, 2012
Rather expected game when 5th ranked Samsun (8-7) was smashed by second ranked Galatasaray (13-2) in Istanbul 92-53 on Saturday. The game without a history. Galatasaray led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Galatasaray outrebounded Samsun 37-24 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Galatasaray especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 76.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for international forward Bahar Caglar (186-88) who led her team to a victory with 14 points and 9 rebounds. American-Russian guard Epiphanny Prince (175-88, college: Rutgers) contributed with 18 points and 4 steals for the winners. Five Galatasaray players scored in double figures. American forward Jillian Robbins (185-84, college: Tulsa, agency: LBM Management) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import power forward Jayne Appel (193-88, college: Stanford) added 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Samsun. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Galatasaray have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-2 record behind leader Fenerbahce. Samsun at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Galatasaray will face Tarsus Bld (#9) in Mersin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Samsun will play at home against Ceyhan Bld (#4) in Adana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
