Regular Season Round 15: Antakya - Fenerbahce 65-92
Date: January 29, 2012
Very predictable result when first ranked Fenerbahce (14-1) rolled over 9th ranked Antakya (5-10) in Hatay 92-65 on Sunday. The game without a history. Fenerbahce led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Antakya's players. It was a good game for American forward Angel McCoughtry (185-86, college: Louisville) who led her team to a victory with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Australian forward Penny Taylor (185-81) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Fenerbahce's coach Georgios Dikeoulakos felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Laura Harper (193-86, college: Maryland) answered with 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Monique Currie (183-83, college: Duke) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Antakya. Fenerbahce have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-1 record. Newly promoted Antakya keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. Fenerbahce will face Mersin (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Antakya will play against Optimum TED in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
