The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked SC Rasta Vechta's (13-6) home victory over 5th ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (11-8) 79-74 on Wednesday. SG Schwelmer Baskets trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 26-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 74-79 at the end of the game. SC Rasta Vechta outrebounded SG Schwelmer Baskets 39-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. Forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and forward A.J. Rudowitz (198-88, college: Stonehill) accounted for 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Alexander Starr (196-84, college: Centenary) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 17 points respectively for SG Schwelmer Baskets in the defeat. SG Schwelmer Baskets' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. SC Rasta Vechta moved-up to third place, which they share with Herten. Loser SG Schwelmer Baskets keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Dorsten. SC Rasta Vechta will meet ALBA Berlin II (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#8) and hope to secure a win.
