There was no surprise in Funchal where 9th ranked Barcelos (4-11) were defeated by fifth ranked CAB Madeira (9-6) 74-64 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by CAB Madeira. Barcelos managed to win third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CAB Madeira forced 19 Barcelos turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Jaime Silva (187-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points. The former international center Jorge Coelho (200-78) helped adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) with 25 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Pedro Silva (198-79) scored 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. CAB Madeira maintains fifth place with 9-6 record. Barcelos lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Terceira Basket. CAB Madeira will meet higher ranked Barreirense (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barcelos will play against Academica (#7) in Coimbra and hope to secure a win.
