Regular Season Round 13: Alges - Maia Basket 84-70

Leader Alges delivered the twelfth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 9th ranked Maia Basket (5-8) 84-70. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Maia Basket. The game was mostly controlled by Alges. Maia Basket managed to win second period 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maia Basket 42-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. American forward DeSean White (203-86, college: Northwood Fl.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Cape Verdean forward Fidel Mendonca (191-84) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Alges players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) responded with 21 points and guard Andre Dara (180-83) scored 6 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alges (12-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Loser Maia Basket keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Alges will meet league's second-placed Angrabasket on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maia Basket will play against Oliveirense (#8) in Oliveira and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
