Regular Season Round 17: Spartak Pleven - Chernomorets 102-78

Bottom-ranked Spartak Pleven managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of four consecutive loses on Saturday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Chernomorets 102-78. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 24-point difference suggests that Spartak Pleven is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Spartak Pleven. Chernomorets managed to win fourth quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spartak Pleven shot 62.1 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 55.9 percentage. Spartak Pleven looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Chernomorets' players. The former international forward Ilia Stankov (198-76) nailed 27 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for the winning side and forward Veselin Georgiev (196-86) accounted for 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. FYR Macedonian center Kiril Pavlovski (210-85, agency: Global Sports Plaza) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds and forward Konstantin Koev (195-91) added 18 points respectively for Chernomorets in the defeat. Spartak Pleven (3-14) moved-up to seventh place. Chernomorets lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 15 games lost. Spartak Pleven will meet at home league's second-placed Levski Sofia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chernomorets will play against Tundja Yambol (#4) and hope to secure a win.
