Regular Season Round 22: Darussafaka - Pertevniyal 73-79

There was a small surprise in Istanbul where thirteenth ranked Pertevniyal (9-12) defeated 11th ranked Darussafaka (9-12) 79-73 on Sunday. Darussafaka trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 21-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 73-79 at the end of the game. It was a great shooting night for Pertevniyal especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. Darussafaka was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Burak Can scored 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Soykan Yikilmaz (185-92) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Pertevniyal players scored in double figures. Pertevniyal's coach Menderes Gumusdal used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Joshua Dollard (203-86, college: USC Aiken) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and Muhammed Baygul scored 15 points (made all of his eight free throws). Pertevniyal moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Darussafaka and Balikesir. Darussafaka lost seventh consecutive game. Pertevniyal will face higher ranked Akhisar Bld (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
