Regular Season Round 17: Mersin - TED Ankara 76-63

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Mersin (9-8) defeated at home 9th ranked Optimum TED (6-11) 76-63. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin. Optimum TED was better in third quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Optimum TED 45-25 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mersin players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Ayse Dilek Unuvar (178-82) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Mersin players scored in double figures. LBRn guard Matee Ajavon (170-86, college: Rutgers) answered with 20 points and 5 steals and the former international forward Gulsah Akkaya (181-77) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Optimum TED. Optimum TED's coach Deryan Ozyer rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mersin have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ceyhan Bld. Optimum TED lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Tarsus Bld. Mersin will play against bottom-ranked Istanbul Universitesi (#12) in Istanbul in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Optimum TED will play at home against the league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul and hopes to get back on the winning track.
