Regular Season Round 14: Maia Basket - Oliveirense 78-64

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Oliveirense (6-8) lost on the road to ninth ranked Maia Basket (6-8) 78-64 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maia Basket. Oliveirense managed to win fourth quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Center Paulo Diamantino (203-85) notched 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) supported him with 13 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Deantre Jefferson (203-88, college: Chattanooga) did not help to save the game for Oliveirense. Guard Nuno Freitas (180-81) added 12 points for the guests. Oliveirense's coach Joao Costeira rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maia Basket moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Oliveirense. Maia Basket will meet higher ranked Fisica (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Oliveirense will play against Angrabasket (#3) and hope to secure a win.
