Regular Season Round 24: Vechta - SU Medien 97-67

The most important game in the last round took place in Vechta between second ranked Spot Up Medien Baskets (15-7) and fourth ranked SC Rasta Vechta (15-7) on Tuesday night. Spot Up Medien Baskets were crushed by SC Rasta Vechta on the road 97-67. The game was mostly controlled by SC Rasta Vechta. Spot Up Medien Baskets managed to win second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spot Up Medien Baskets 48-22 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. SC Rasta Vechta looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Spot Up Medien Baskets' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and guard Flavio Stuckemann (187-85) who added 12 points and 11 assists during the contest. Five SC Rasta Vechta players scored in double figures. SC Rasta Vechta's coach Patrick Elzie felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Cuban swingman Howard Sant-Roos (198-91) with 18 points and center Frank Theis (200-82) scored 15 points. SC Rasta Vechta moved-up to second place, which they share with SU Medien and Herten. SC Rasta Vechta is looking forward to face RSV Eintracht (#7) in Stahnsdorf in the next round where they are favorite. Spot Up Medien Baskets will play on the road against the league's second-placed Hertener Loewen (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
