Date: February 15, 2012
There was a small surprise in Zaporozhye where seventh ranked Hoverla (16-12) smashed 7th ranked Ferro-ZNTU (17-11) 101-79 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Hoverla. Ferro-ZNTU was better in third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hoverla dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Ferro-ZNTU's 34. They outrebounded Ferro-ZNTU 36-20 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hoverla looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard Marcus Walker (186-86, college: Colorado St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who scored 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Kevin Tiggs (196-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Mike Davis (205-88, college: Illinois) who recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds and guard Jeremy Chappell (191-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) added 14 points respectively. Five Hoverla and four Ferro-ZNTU players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hoverla maintains seventh place with 16-12 record. Loser Ferro-ZNTU dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. Hoverla will have a break next round. Ferro-ZNTU will play on the road against Azovmash (#3) in Mariupol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
