There was no surprise in Zaporozhye where 9th ranked BC Kyiv (13-16) was defeated by seventh ranked Ferro-ZNTU (17-11) 79-70 on Friday. BC Kyiv was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Ferro-ZNTU made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. BC Kyiv was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was center R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Randy Culpepper (182-89, college: UTEP) chipped in 26 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Vernon Goodridge (206-84, college: La Salle) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 19 rebounds and guard Derrick Zimmerman (191-81, college: Mississippi St.) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four BC Kyiv players scored in double figures. BC Kyiv's coach Vitaliy Cherniy tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ferro-ZNTU moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Khimik. BC Kyiv lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 16 games lost. Ferro-ZNTU will face higher ranked Azovmash (#3) in Mariupol in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
