Regular Season Round 27: Mykolaiv - Khimik 87-90

Tenth-ranked Mykolaiv (11-18) made lots of trouble for sixth ranked Khimik (17-11) on Saturday. The visitors from Yuzhny managed to secure only three-point victory 90-87. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 33-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Khimik made 30-of-37 free shots (81.1 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American point guard Darrel Mitchell (181-84, college: LSU, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) helped adding 22 points and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Khimik's coach Darko Russo used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American swingman Rodney Green (195-88, college: La Salle) with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Olexiy Onufriyev (200-82) scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Four Khimik and five Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. Khimik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ferro-ZNTU. Loser Mykolaiv keeps the tenth position with 18 games lost. Khimik will meet at home Kryvbasbasket (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mykolaiv will play against Halychyna in Lviv and hope to secure a win.
