No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (15-9) beat at home 11th ranked Bayer Giants (8-16) 86-80 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Bayer Giants trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 30-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 80-86 at the end of the game. SG Schwelmer Baskets dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Bayer Giants' 24 and made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game, while Bayer Giants only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Bayer Giants 43-24 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Jason Holmes (191-86, college: Le Moyne) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. The other American import guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) contributed with 22 points for the winners. SG Schwelmer Baskets' coach Raphael Wilder used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Matthias Goddek (195-86) replied with 20 points and guard Till-Joscha Joenke (189-92) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Bayer Giants.
