Regular Season Round 23: Utena - Sirenos 51-63

The game in Utena was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Sirenos (16-9) played at the court of 5th ranked Utena (8-17). Sirenos defeated Utena 63-51 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Sirenos. Utena was better in second period 17-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sirenos won last quarter 18-8. Sirenos outrebounded Utena 44-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for center Kristina Alminaite (204-90) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks. The former international guard Rasa Zemantauskaite (177-81) helped adding 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Ela Briedyte (176-79) responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds and guard Asta Daujadiene (176-73) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Sirenos. They moved-up to third place. Utena lost their seventh game in a row. Utena at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with 17 games lost. Sirenos will face bottom-ranked Suduva (#8) in Marijampole in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Utena will play on the road against LKKA-Aistes in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
