LKL top team - Lietuvos rytas (17-2) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Pieno Zvaigzdes (8-7) in Vilnius 85-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pieno Zvaigzdes. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Pieno Zvaigzdes managed to win third quarter 29-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietuvos rytas dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Pieno Zvaigzdes' 28. They outrebounded Pieno Zvaigzdes 39-20 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. 32 personal fouls committed by Pieno Zvaigzdes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International center Jonas Valanciunas (210-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American power forward Lawrence Roberts (206-82, college: Mississippi St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Five Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. Guard Zydrunas Kelys (188-87) answered with 11 points and 9 assists and forward Eimantas Bendzius (203-90) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Pieno Zvaigzdes. Pieno Zvaigzdes' coach Roberts Stelmahers rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-2 record. Newly promoted Pieno Zvaigzdes keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Lietuvos rytas are looking forward to face Kedainiai (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pieno Zvaigzdes will play against Rudupis in Prienai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
