The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Galatasaray as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Galatasaray edged 7th ranked Tofas in Istanbul 103-102 in double-overtime. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime then Tofas managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Galatasaray who were better in double-overtime eventually winning that period 11-11. They made 30-of-39 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Galatasaray forced 19 Tofas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Tofas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman Preston Shumpert (198-79, college: Syracuse) stepped up and scored 23 points for the winners and guard Jamon Lukas Gordon (191-84, college: Virginia Tech) chipped in 13 points, 11 assists and 6 steals. Galatasaray's coach Oktay Mahmudi used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was forward Bradley Buckman (203-84, college: Texas) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and guard Taurean Green (185-85, college: Florida) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Five Galatasaray and four Tofas players scored in double figures. Galatasaray (17-3) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Tofas at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. They share the position with Aliaga. Tofas will play next round against Hacettepe Univ. trying to get back on the winning streak. Galatasaray will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Banvit BK in Balikesir.
