TB2L top team - Optimum TED (23-5) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Balikesir (12-16) in Ankara 80-67. The game was mostly controlled by Optimum TED. Balikesir was better in second period 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Optimum TED dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Balikesir's 28. Balikesir was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Nezih Ozbakir (206-80) stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners and center Ufuk Gurgen (208-77, agency: EM-PA) chipped in 13 points. American forward Charles Jackson (203-87, college: Hawaii-Pacific, agency: Court Side) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Yunus Akcay (-89) scored 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Optimum TED. They maintain first place with 23-5 record. Newly promoted Balikesir dropped to the ninth position with 16 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Optimum TED will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Balikesir will play at home against Gelisim (#11) in Izmir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
