Second-ranked Crailsheim Merlins (16-9) fell to twelfth ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule (11-14) in overtime by five points 78-83 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Crailsheim Merlins. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Crailsheim Merlins won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Crailsheim Merlins used huge pressure winning it 19-11 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-15. They outrebounded Crailsheim Merlins 43-31 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ehingen/Urspringschule looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Virgil Matthews (188-83, college: Montana) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import forward Andre Calvin (196-85, college: Drake, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Mark Hill (180, college: CS Northridge) replied with 15 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and naturalized American forward Joseph Buck (201-81, college: USC) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Crailsheim Merlins. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Ehingen/Urspringschule maintains twelfth position with 11-14 record. Crailsheim Merlins at the other side keep the second place with nine games lost. Ehingen/Urspringschule will face higher ranked Science City Jena (#9) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
