Regular Season Round 19: Barreirense - Ginasio 108-63

Bottom-ranked Ginasio (0-19) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 108-63 loss to fourth ranked Barreirense (13-6) in Barreiro on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Barreirense led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Ginasio's 22 and made 29-of-32 free shots (90.6 percent) during the game, while Ginasio only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Ginasio 42-23 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Anthony Hill (204-88, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). His fellow American import forward David Jackson (201-88, college: Penn St.) helped adding 19 points. Four Barreirense players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Pedro Rocha (190-87) responded with 24 points and naturalized Serbian Stefan Djukic (201-89) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Barreirense. They maintain fourth place with 13-6 record. Ginasio lost their nineteenth game in a row. They still closes the standings. Barreirense will meet at home Sampaense (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Ginasio will play against CAB Madeira in Funchal and hopes to get finally their first victory.
