Second Stage Round 13: Statyba - S.Marciulionio 96-89

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Vilnius: Statyba (#5) and S.Marciulionio (#8). Statyba (25-18) won against visiting S.Marciulionio (23-20) 96-89. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But S.Marciulionio won fourth quarter 28-27. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Statyba shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) stepped up and scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners and center Vitalijus Luksa (206-86) chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds. Statyba's coach Gintautas Regina used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side point guard Robertas Bitinas (182-84) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and center Egidijus Mockevicius (204-92) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five Statyba and four S.Marciulionio players scored in double figures. Statyba maintains fifth place in with 25-18 record. Loser S.Marciulionio dropped to the tenth position with 20 games lost. Statyba will meet Meresta (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. S.Marciulionio will play against Ezerunas-Karys in Moletai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
