Everything went according to plan in Homburg where fourth ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (16-10) beat 14th ranked Saar-Pfalz Braves (7-18) 70-52 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by BV Chemnitz 99. Saar-Pfalz Braves managed to win third quarter 20-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Saar-Pfalz Braves to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Saar-Pfalz Braves 40-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Gary Johnson (188-82, college: Cent.Florida) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Japanese point guard Takumi Ishizaki (188-84) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (200-88, college: McNeese St.) who recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds and American center Travis Reed (203-79, college: Long Beach St., agency: Court Side) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively. BV Chemnitz 99 maintains fourth place with 16-10 record. Loser Saar-Pfalz Braves keep the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. BV Chemnitz 99 will meet at home higher ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saar-Pfalz Braves will play against USC Heidelberg (#10) and hope to secure a win.
