Regular Season Round 23: Mersin - Karsiyaka 79-93

Very expected game when 12th ranked Mersin (8-15) lost to sixth ranked Karsiyaka (13-10) in Akdeniz 79-93 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Karsiyaka. Mersin managed to win third quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Karsiyaka had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who led the winners and scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized Serbian center Emre Bayav (212-87) accounted for 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. American forward Omar Sneed (198-76, college: Memphis) came up with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Alex Scales (192-78, college: Oregon) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for Mersin in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Karsiyaka maintains sixth place with 13-10 record. Loser Mersin keeps the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Karsiyaka will meet at home Tofas (#8) in the next round. Mersin will play against Erdemir (#9) and hope to secure a win.
