Regular Season Round 20: Alges - GDESSA 80-59
Date: March 18, 2012
The game between Top Four teams took place in Alges. First ranked host Alges (19-1) smashed 3rd ranked GDESSA (13-7) 80-59. The game was mostly controlled by Alges. GDESSA was better in fourth quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding GDESSA to just 7 points in second quarter. Alges made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 GDESSA turnovers. The winners were led by American guard Jennifer Risper (175-87, college: Vanderbilt) who scored that evening 15 points and 6 assists and the former international guard Joana Araujo (171-78) supported her with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Alges players scored in double figures. Alges' coach Jose Araujo felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds by American power forward Elisa Beagle (183-87, college: Texas A&M-CC) did not help to save the game for GDESSA. Her fellow American import guard Angie Ned (175-85, college: Cal-Irvine, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 15 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Alges have an impressive 15-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-1 record. GDESSA at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. Alges will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GDESSA will play at home against Montijobanda and hopes to get back on the winning track.
