There was no surprise in Ankara where 11th ranked Gelisim (13-18) was defeated by sixth ranked Maliye Milli (21-10) 83-79 on Wednesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gelisim was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-17 charge of Maliye Milli, which allowed them to win the game. Maliye Milli shot 18 for 24 from the free-throw line, while Gelisim only scored two points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American power forward Arthur Johnson (206-81, college: Missouri) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Barkin Cinar (193-83) chipped in 14 points. Four Maliye Milli players scored in double figures. Maliye Milli's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Sertay Gursu (195-87, agency: EM-PA) produced 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Onat Akis (187-87) added 9 points and 8 assists respectively for the guests. Maliye Milli moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Gelisim dropped to the ninth position with 18 games lost. Maliye Milli will face Tire Gucu (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gelisim will play against the league's leader Optimum TED (#1) in Ankara.
