There was no surprise when 14th ranked Iasi (3-26) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Sp.Studentesc (14-15) 71-67 on Wednesday. Sp.Studentesc outrebounded Iasi 55-32 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Croatian forward Matea Vrdoljak (186-85) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds. American forward Odessa Williams (188-86, college: Longwood) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Danielle Walker (178-86, college: Clark Atlanta) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and guard Madalina Cioroiu (173-91) added 7 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sp.Studentesc maintains ninth place with 14-15 record. Loser Iasi dropped to the fifteenth position with 26 games lost. Sp.Studentesc's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti Olimpia.
