Regular Season Round 33: Gelisim - TED Kolejliler 77-74

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Optimum TED (25-6) in Izmir on Friday night. Visitors were edged by eleventh ranked Gelisim (14-18) 77-74. It ended at the same time the 14-game winning streak of Optimum TED. Optimum TED trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 29-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-77 at the end of the game. Gelisim made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was a good game for guard Sertay Gursu (195-87, agency: EM-PA) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) contributed with 23 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Center Hakan Yapar (202-84) answered with 22 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ali Kavaklioglu (186-86) added 14 points and 4 assists in the effort for Optimum TED. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gelisim moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Istanbul B.B. Optimum TED at the other side still keeps top position with six games lost. Gelisim is looking forward to face Darussafaka (#11) in Istanbul in the next round. Optimum TED will play at home against Tire Gucu (#15) and is hoping to win this game.
