Regular Season Round 36: Azovmash - Budivelnyk 81-60

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Budivelnyk (27-7) in Mariupol on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by third ranked Azovmash (24-12) 81-60. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. The game was mostly controlled by Azovmash. Budivelnyk managed to win second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Budivelnyk to just 6 points in third quarter. Azovmash dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Budivelnyk's 34. They outrebounded Budivelnyk 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Matt Walsh (197-82, college: Florida) who helped to win the game recording 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international guard Artur Drozdov (199-80) who added 10 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jack McClinton (185-85, college: Miami, FL) with 15 points and Dominican guard Luis Flores (188-81, college: Manhattan) scored 11 points. Five Azovmash and four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azovmash maintains third position with 24-12 record having just one points less than leader Budivelnyk. Defending champion Budivelnyk still keeps top place with seven games lost. Azovmash will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Budivelnyk will play on the road against Kryvbasbasket in Krivoy Rog and is hoping to win this game.
