There was no surprise in Braunschweig where 15th ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (8-21) was defeated by seventh ranked New Yorker Phantoms (15-13) 87-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by New Yorker Phantoms. EnBW Ludwigsburg managed to win second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Yorker Phantoms had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by EnBW Ludwigsburg's players. Nigerian-American point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, agency: Pro One Sports) stepped up and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American center Kyle Visser (211-85, college: Wake Forest) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Four New Yorker Phantoms players scored in double figures. Antiguan-American power forward Kurt Looby (208-84, college: Iowa) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and American guard Alex Harris (196-86, agency: Interperformances) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Yorker Phantoms maintains seventh place with 15-13 record, which they share with Telekom Baskets. Loser EnBW Ludwigsburg keeps the fifteenth position with 21 games lost. They share it with LTi 46ers and Phoenix Hagen. New Yorker Phantoms will meet at home bottom-ranked BG Goettingen (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. EnBW Ludwigsburg will play against Phoenix Hagen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
