Regular Season Round 22: Lietkabelis - LSU-Baltai 85-70

We should mention about the upset which took place in Panevezys, where higher ranked Baltai Kaunas (9-12) lost to eleventh ranked Lietkabelis (5-16) in a road game 70-85 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Lietkabelis. Baltai Kaunas managed to win third quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietkabelis dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Baltai Kaunas' 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Baltai Kaunas' players. Center Vaidas Cepukaitis (207-89, agency: Interperformances) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Lietkabelis' coach Gintaras Leonavicius used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side the former international swingman Jonas Maciulis (198-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard Edgaras Ulanovas (198-92) scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Lietkabelis moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Sakalai. Loser Baltai Kaunas keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Neptunas. Lietkabelis will meet higher ranked Kedainiai (#8) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Baltai Kaunas will play against Siauliai and hope to secure a win.
