There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked BBC Bayreuth (12-19) defeated at home 10th ranked EWE Baskets (14-17) 88-81 on Wednesday. EWE Baskets trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-88 at the end of the game. BBC Bayreuth made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. EWE Baskets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Danny Gibson (180-84, college: S.Indiana, agency: Limelight Hoops) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Estonian guard Rain Veideman (192-91) helped adding 17 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets' coach Ralph Held let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. BBC Bayreuth maintains thirteenth place with 12-19 record. Loser EWE Baskets dropped to the eleventh position with 17 games lost. BBC Bayreuth will face Phoenix Hagen (#17) on the road in the next round.
